        They later added six Gnome-Rhone radials to make it self-powered, and called it the Me323, still keeping the Gigant name. In 1943 a flight of 27 of these, on its way to reinforce the Afrika Korps, was bounced by British P-40's and Spitfires; 22 went into the Aegean Sea.
