John, did you see that the FAA published today Change 3 to the Commercial ACS located here: https://www.faa.gov/training_testing...rplane_acs.pdf

What they did was to slip in a change to the appendix that says that "A complex airplane must be used for an AMEL or AMES practical test, as defined in 14 CFR part 61, section 61.1."

Note that there is no requirement now to use a complex aircraft for the ASEL Commercial practical test. It says it was effective as of April 19.

And, FAA did the same for the single engine airplane Instructor PTS: https://www.faa.gov/training_testing...-S-8081-6D.pdf No longer is a complex aircraft required, as of 4/19/18.

I did just see that. My Commercial Student is scheduled for her checkride next Monday. She was planning to use two aircraft (C172 for most of it, C210 to show complex competentcy. She's emailing with the DPE now.

This note goes into the reasoning. I had heard this was in the works, but didn't think it would just slip in like it did. https://www.safepilots.org/wp-conten.../n8900_463.pdf

John -- I was just about to send that Notice to you! Hopefully the C172 will suffice for your student.
