  • Seminar - Returning to Safe Flight Ops (corporate)

Our Westchester (HPN/NY) Aviation Association is holding its annual safety conference this year, albeit virtual in 2021 and we're doing it over two mornings (May 26-27), 9AM - 12PM EDT each day.

Our topic this year is Returning To Safe Flight Operations, with fabulous panels (2 per day) on this broad theme. It's mostly geared to corporate GA, charters and fractionals.

    The panels are:

    1. How to remain mission ready after a period of inactivity.

Corporate flight department managers will talk about what they have done to keep their staff engaged during the pandemic lockdown, from maintaining currency of pilots, transitioning to new equipment, and maintaining aircraft in a "ready to fly" condition. They will draw upon what has worked well for their departments, and what they may do differently, as the reduction in flying continues and moves more toward a "new normal" of flight operations.

    2. Industry-Wide Pandemic Related Protocols

Our panelists have their fingers on the pulse of what is happening in our industry, and what opportunities may present themselves for improved operations with the minimal flying at present. We'll look at departments as a whole, including maintenance, dispatching, engineering, flight cabin crews and pilots. COVID challenges will be examined and ways to mitigate the risks inherent in flight operations to outlying destinations.

    3. Global Operations Moving Forward

The leaders of major flight departments that have been flying to domestic and foreign locations during the pandemic will talk about how they have managed risks, and the challenges that they have faced around the world. With an ever-moving target of COVID restrictions and requirements, learn how flexibility and nimbleness can answer some of the operational difficulties that have arisen and may be expected to arise in coming months and years.

    4. Physical & Mental Considerations Coming Out of COVID

Our panel of doctors will give the best information available for corporate flight departments and crews on assessing and minimizing the risks of COVID 19 as operations resume. From the risks of transmission of the virus by those who have been vaccinated, to continued mask use on the flight deck and in the cabin, to lifestyle choices that may be helpful in increasing resistance to infection, various physical medical concerns will be addressed. And, importantly, managers and line crew will hear about mental and emotional effects of COVID (such as our loss of loved ones and friends to COVID, concern about family health and the relative isolation of quarantine at home) which may manifest themselves in unforeseen ways and times, such as with anxiety and depression. We'll talk about how those with FAA medical certification may have concerns about seeking appropriate counseling in those instances.
