MEL in 337

So a former student tells me he's just purchased a Cessna 337 and is looking to get his multi rating in the airplane. Does anyone know what the latest status of getting the MEL in a centerline thrust airplane is? I know there used to be a limitation that could be placed on the MEL restricting it to centerline thrust, but he tell me he thinks that's gone now.

What's the latest?

Looking at the Private Pilot ACS I see this language is in Appendix 7, so I guess you can still get the MEL with a "Limited to Centerline Thrust" limitation on the certificate.
