Hi Ray,
I suspect the F-35, if/when fully developed, could be an amazing element in our tool box. But . . . it is obscenely beyond cost effective. Political pressures precipitated a really bad decision on the use of our taxpayer dollars.

I expect that within ten years or so our need to reach out and touch someone will be done increasing with, un-personed, remotely operated craft. Both air, sea and land.

I wonder what the cost to build an F-35, once it's unburdened from development costs? I suspect the development is a major part of it's "price tag". Which of course means that the fewer you build, the more obscene the price tag is.

Maybe the best use of them would be to make China think we're building a bunch of them so they'll bankrupt themselves trying to keep up.

Woohoo, seems the mixed up Inconel and Titanium fasteners, and put the wrong ones in.

Interesting, yes, they might be "visually similar" but the workers should have known when they picked one up it was not correct based on weight. Inconel is around double the density of titanium.

Reading all of that, it appears that it's not necessarily going supersonic as much as it's the use of the afterburner for supersonic cruise. The heat affects the stealth properties.

F-35 jet can only fly at supersonic speeds for short bursts of time before there is a risk of structural damage and loss of stealth capability.

More than just the stealth capabilities.

Oh, and due to this, the C model (Navy), cannot make super sonic intercepts. Hmm, one size fits all??????? NOT.
